‘Twas the Morning of Christmas

‘Twas the Morning of Christmas
When all through the house
No electricity running
No white lights to douse
The children were nestled
All snug in their beds
When then power went out
And I started to dread
All the teeth-chatt’ring whining
And the lack of warm food
“I can’t see, I’m too cold!”
This WILL NOT be good
Add in 2 sick babies
And no windows to boot
That means flashlights and hankies
In addition to loot
And cold cereal instead
Of mommy’s sausage balls
Will be lining our tummies
While we sing Deck the Halls
No movies, no cocoa
No coffee, no tea
At least my ol’ iPhone
Has a full battery
I can still play some music
And a snippet or two
Of past Christmas videos
And instructions on YouTube
But who knows? Maybe this
Year’s Christmas will be
The brightest and best
In our memory
Just maybe we’ll see
Like the Ol’ Grinch himself
That Christmas doesn’t come
From a box on a shelf
That you don’t need bright lights
Or a big fancy tree
You just need some love
From your own family

Merry Christmas to all!
And to all...
Ah, who am I kidding? I’m freezing!
Honey! Get me some more layers to put on!!
